NO CATCHES TO REPORT ON OPENING DAY

Club President Jimmy Ross on opening day
A few club members were out on Portnacraig Pitlochry yesterday for the opening day, although there were no fish caught. The river had come up a bit, but it was still at a good height. Three fish had appeared on the counter at Pitlochry Dam just upstream of the beat, which seemed a bit unlikely as now that the water temperature has dropped to about 3C (37.4F) salmon reaching the dam normally wait in the Tummel downstream of the dam until late March or April when they get slightly warmer water which helps them swim up the ladder.
