CONDITIONS GOOD ON TUMMEL FOR OPENING OF THE SALMON SEASON

Portnacraig Pitlochry Beat 13/1/14
The conditions on the River Tummel look good for the opening of the Tay salmon season tomorrow (15 January) with the river having now fined down to about 2' 9" above summer height.

The opening day each year on Portnacraig Pitlochry Beat is reserved for paid-up Club members who take turns to fish if there are more than three wishing to fish on either bank. They (including Gordon) will be keen to repeat Gordon Nichol's success of opening day last year, when he caught a magnificent salmon of 21 lb on fly.

Port na Craig Footbridge 13/1/14
All days from Thursday 16 January are bookable by visitors, subject to availability Anglers out on cold days at this time of year should watch out for black ice on the bankside rocks.

Although Port na Craig Footbridge reopened as scheduled in December, it has now closed again due to the refurbishment work taking longer to complete than expected. The latest news is that it should reopen again Monday 3 March, although this may not be for definite as the notices at the works itself do not display a definite date. For the time being, anglers crossing between the banks will need to use Aldour Bridge (car or on foot) or the footpath across the dam. We apologise for the inconvenience.
